Welcome to SND’s first discussion forum focusing on qualitative data.

This session will be an open and exploratory forum for conversation and reflection on what is needed to develop and improve guidance for researchers working with qualitative methods and materials across Sweden. The aim is to jointly try to identify needs, challenges, and possible ways forward in relation to the management and potential sharing of qualitative data. SND’s new KvalData group for qualitative data is looking for inspiration to develop resources that will be useful for both researchers and DAU staff.

Discussion points

• What distinguishes the management of qualitative data from other types of research data?
  Which assumptions about “data”, access, and reuse are often perceived as conflicting with qualitative research?
   
• What support is needed – and what is being requested?
  What types of data management support are particularly relevant for researchers using qualitative approaches? At what stages of the research process do these needs arise?
   
• Sharing, guidelines and responsibilities
  What would make it easier to support researchers in managing qualitative data in your specific context?

If time allows, we would also like to discuss:
Do you see a need for training, tools, guiding principles, or case studies/use cases to better support researchers working with qualitative methods?
