Funding

SND is primarily funded by grants from the Swedish Research Council and contributions from the nine universities that are part of the SND Consortium.

Grants from the Swedish Research Council

SND is one of the national research infrastructures that receive funding from the Swedish Research Council. The current grant extends until the year 2026 and amounts to approximately 20 million SEK per year.

Co-funding from the consortium universities

The universities in SND's consortium contribute an amount equal to that of the Swedish Research Council to SND's annual funding. The University of Gothenburg, which is the host university and financial administrator for SND, provides approximately eight million SEK directly to the operations. The other universities in the consortium each provide 1.5 million SEK by in-kind contribution, which consists of funding for domain specialists and flagship projects.

Service fees from members of the SND Network

All institutions that are part of the SND Network but not in the consortium pay an annual service fee for access to tools, training resources, support from SND staff, as well as participation in network meetings and other events. These fees amount to a total of just under two million SEK.

Project funding from the EU and other funding organizations

SND has a long history of participating in both national and international collaborative projects to improve access to digital research data for reuse. The majority of project funding comes from the EU and the total annual amount of these funds varies.
