National collaborations

SND collaborates with a range of organizations in promoting open science and increased access to research data. Much of SND’s collaborative work takes place within the SND Network, which includes a majority of Sweden’s higher education institutions along with several other research organizations. SND is also involved in additional national partnerships to develop shared strategies, guidelines, and practical approaches to research data management.

Working groups and projects

The KAFFE project

The KAFFE project group (Mapping Capabilities within the E-infrastructure System for Research, previously “Research Data – From Concept to Completion”) focuses on mapping the needs of researchers in terms of research data management in relation to the interaction between various Swedish e-infrastructures.

The project has three tracks:

  1. Analysis of reports, studies, and parallel projects
  2. Terminology and capabilities
  3. Interviews with researchers

Staff from the SND Consortium and the SND Network actively contribute to all three tracks of the project. Further information about the project will soon be available on a dedicated webpage.

Roadmap for research data activities (“Orienteringskartan”)

A working group within the SND Network has developed “Orienteringskartan”, a tool that provides practical support to higher education institutions on their path towards open science. The tool is based on the Swedish Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions' (SUHF) roadmap for open science, along with the national guidelines for open science. “Orienteringskartan” is updated regularly.

Reference group for training resources

This reference group provides valuable insights and experience to guide the development of training resources on research data management for Researchdata.se and SND.se. The group discusses resources aimed at researchers, doctoral students, students, and research data support staff – strengthening the role of the SND Network as a knowledge hub.

National PID recommendations

SND has initiated the development of national recommendations for the use of persistent identifiers (PIDs) in research. The Swedish Research Council (VR), the National Library of Sweden (KB), and SciLifeLab are involved in the discussions.

Terminology work

This working group discusses matters of terminology in Research Data Management and Open Science, as part of an effort to establish recommendations for a national RDM terminology.

Disclosure of research data containing personal information

This working group developed a checklist for disclosing research data containing personal information. The checklist complements the guidance on disclosing research data containing personal information, Vägledning för utlämnande av forskningsdata med personuppgifter, by offering practical advice in assessing requests for disclosure of data. The checklist is published on Zenodo and will be published in web format on the SND website.
This group has completed the work with the checklist and is no longer active.

Specialist groups within the SND Network

IT Forum

SND’s IT Forum provides an opportunity for IT experts involved in research data support and other research data-related activities within the SND Network to meet and discuss current problems and potential solutions. As the forum is primarily intended for people with an IT background, the presentations and topics discussed are of a more technical nature. You are welcome to participate even if you don’t work in IT.

Legal network

The purpose of the legal network is to highlight and discuss the legal problems we encounter in the work with research data. The group is open to legal officers and data protection officers in the SND Network.
Contact: Erica Schweder and Anna Süpke, juridik@snd.se.

Archivists’ group

The Archivists’ group includes archivists from several higher education institutions in the SND Network. The group focuses on questions related to the archiving and long-term preservation of research data and has developed materials under the theme FAIR over time.
