A global platform where all types of research data are accessible to researchers and other stakeholders across the world. That is the objective of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), where EOSC-Nordic plays an important part.
EOSC-Nordic is funded by the European Union and is part of the construction of EOSC. The EOSC portal will contain services and tools for storage solutions, training, research data management and analysis. There was recently a launch event for the EOSC-Nordic project, which will run until August 2022. The purpose of EOSC-Nordic is to coordinate resources in the Nordic and Baltic countries in order achieve greater harmonisation of services, tools, and policies for research data. In practice, this will improve the connection between e-infrastructures and research infrastructures.
SND is one of the Swedish organisations in the EOSC-Nordic team, which has 24 partners from ten countries. The other Swedish members are Gothenburg Global Biodiversity Centre (GGBC), Swedish National Infrastructure for Computing (SNIC), and the Swedish University computer Network (SUNET).
—An important benefit of this collaboration, on Swedish behalf, is that our resources will be available in the EOSC Marketplace and therefore easier to access, says Iris Alfredsson, Senior Advisor in SND.
EOSC-Nordic has six workgroups (or work packages, WPs), and SND will mainly take part in WP4 and 5, which concern FAIR data and data management plans. Other work packages will focus on project coordination and management; policies, legal issues, and sustainability; support to EOSC-Nordic’s service providers; and communication and competence building.
—Regarding FAIR, a vital part of the work in EOSC-Nordic will be to connect the certification of repositories and the certification of research data. For instance, when a repository in the future gets certified with the CoreTrustSeal, it means the data in that repository meet the FAIR principles, says Iris Alfredsson.
