Just in time for the final push of the election campaign, SND has published the 2026 election manifestos in our special collection. The material makes it possible to systematically explore the issues the parties are campaigning on and to search for specific content directly within the documents.
Like the rest of the material in this special collection, which now contains Swedish party programs and election manifestos from 1897 to 2026, this year’s manifestos are available to view and download in easy-to-use PDF and text formats. Dimitar Popovski, Research Data Advisor at SND, is one of those responsible for the work.
“We are eager to publish the material as soon as possible after all the parties represented in the Riksdag have made their election manifestos public. One thing that has become increasingly challenging over time is that the manifestos have become more complex to work with. For example, a great deal of information is embedded in images and various types of boxes. This means that some manual work is needed to extract the full text accurately,” he explains.
Collection also updated with the latest party programs
The special collection has also been updated with party and policy programs published since the 2024 European Parliament election. Around 15 new entries have been added in total. In addition to election manifestos from the eight parties represented in the Swedish Parliament, the collection also includes manifestos and programs from the Pirate Party and Feministerna (formerly Feminist Initiative, Fi). Material from these parties is included because they have previously been represented in the European Parliament.
“It is very rewarding to work with this material. The special collection’s web page is, and has long been, the most visited page on the SND website, and this is also the material that generates the most questions from our website visitors,” says Dimitar Popovski.
