This autumn, SND will initiate an IT specialist forum. This forum is designated for staff involved in the establishment of research data support units (or DAU) in Swedish higher education institutions, or staff who take an interest in research data issues. The purpose of this forum is to create a community for deeper discussions of the IT technical side of research data. Possible questions that can come up are storage and archiving of research data, integration with the SND tools and systems, or IT strategic questions in making research data accessible.
—We’ve noticed that there’s a gap in the network activities; the IT staff aren’t always involved in the DAU establishment. But our January network meeting on storage solutions attracted more participants, and different participants, than usual. Most of them were new to IT, so we think that there’s a demand for discussing these questions more regularly within the network, says Johan Fihn Marberg, Head of IT in SND.
The idea behind the forum is to learn from one another. IT specialists from the HEIs and SND staff will share responsibility for presentations and discussions in the regular meetings. The first meeting will be on Zoom on 28 September. The participants will be given an introduction to SND and the SND system, and decide on the format for the continued forum activities.
