Closed review

Some scientific journals request that data are accessible during the review process for an article. The SND system allows for access to data during such closed reviews.

When you describe data in DORIS, you can check the box “Check if data shall be made available for Closed Review at a scientific journal”. This means that the data description won’t be published in the SND research data catalogue until the article has been accepted. Instead, the system will generate a temporary link that you can refer to if the journal requests access to the data. Data and documentation files that will be accessible by direct download in the research data catalogue are accessible via the link during the closed review process. If the data have restricted access, a request to access them can be sent via the temporary link, and the data will be shared when the request has been granted.

When you submit a data description in DORIS, it is reviewed. You will receive the temporary link to the data description from your designated reviewer. You can read more about the review process here.

Data that are in a closed review process are only accessible via the temporary link, and subsequently not findable in the research data catalogue. They are also less findable via search engines such as Google.

During the review process, you can receive a pre-booked DOI for data. You can share that DOI with the publisher as a reference to the data, but the link won’t work until the catalogue entry is published in the SND research data catalogue.

Until the data description has been published in the SND catalogue, you can update the data and documentation without needing a new DOI. If the files are updated after they’ve been published in the catalogue, a new version of the datasets is generated, with a new DOI.

When the article has been accepted or published, the data need to be published in the SND research data catalogue. The temporary link to the catalogue entry is then replaced by a new, open link. The pre-booked DOI for the dataset is activated and becomes the permanent link for access to the data. Note: It’s important that you contact us as soon as the data shall be published. SND doesn’t have an automated way of receiving this information.
