SND has launched its new online training resource "BAS Online", where anyone who works with research data can learn the basics of data management, documentation and metadata.
BAS Online is unique in its kind, as there is no corresponding web training adapted to Swedish conditions. The hope is that this education will be a natural part of the development of local units for managing research data, known as Data Access Units (DAU), at the 27 universities and university colleges in the SND network. Malin Lundgren, Sara Svensson and Caspar Jordan at SND were part of the team that developed the course and its content. They say that it is primarily aimed at staff who make up the DAUs, but that much of it is also useful for researchers and others who want to learn more. This applies, among other things, to the parts relating to data management, data management plans and documentation during the research process itself.
The training is a distance learning resource provided via a network-based platform on SND’s website. Each of the six training chapters consists of a number of video presentations and accompanying questions, exercises and tasks. Caspar, Sara and Malin welcome questions and comments about the education and its content:
“The idea is to keep developing the course and to maintain a high-level of quality and relevance, so the response from users is really important.”
In addition to providing basic knowledge in managing research data, the training also forms the basis for the Research Data: Access, Management and Collaboration course offered by the University of Borås together with SND. The first round of this course starts on the 1st of April.
