Data Down Under: Three Australian Infrastructures on Research Data Management and Sharing

.
Webinar
22 May, at 09:00–10:00

This webinar will provide three inter-connected short talks, followed by an open discussion session:

  • Andrew Treloar is the Director, International Strategy for the Australian Research Data Commons. This is a national organisation delivering cutting-edge digital research infrastructure in order to provide Australian researchers with competitive advantage through data. He will provide an overview of the ARDC and its Thematic approach to building a number of research data commons.
  • Jenny Fewster is the Director, Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences and Indigenous Research Data Commons from the Australian Research Data Commons. This is accelerating research by helping institutions share data more freely, ethically and cooperatively, following the FAIR and CARE data principles as well as Indigenous data governance protocols. The RDC brings together existing and ongoing investments in text analysis, cultural collections, creative arts, internet data, linguistics, social sciences and Indigenous data governance. Jenny will give an overview of the work that has been underway across the RDC since 2021.
  • Ryan Perry is Director of the Australian Data Archive at ANU, where he oversees Australia’s largest collection of social science research data and the development of digital tools to support its management and access.

The Australian Data Archive (ADA) provides national infrastructure and expert services for the secure collection, curation, and dissemination of research data in the social sciences and related disciplines. Established in 1981 at The Australian National University, the ADA holds a collection of more than 1,700 datasets and processes over 4,000 data access requests each year. In this talk, he will provide an overview of ADA and introduce two recent national infrastructure initiatives funded through the Australian Research Data Commons. Coordinated Access for Data, Researchers, and Environments (CADRE) is a web-based platform designed to streamline data access requests and support data custodians in making well-informed decisions about sensitive data sharing. Integrated Research Infrastructure for Social Sciences (IRISS) is a foundational framework for connecting data, analysis, and platforms to enhance social science research interoperability across Australia.
