It is now much easier for researchers to make use of SND’s web services. The first step is an improved service for the submission of research data for description and reuse. The next step will simplify the process of ordering data from SND.
By logging in to the website, researchers can see a quick overview of the status of submitted data in the process of publishing their data or data descriptions. Users can also save and resume a description later.
“The purpose is to create a portal where researchers can access all of SND’s services using the same login. In the long run, we hope to expand the services available through the portal,” says Johan Fihn Marberg, IT Supervisor.
An example of one potential extension is a national tool for data management plans. A decision on whether and when this might come to fruition is however dependent not only on SND but also other bodies such as the Swedish Research Council and SUHF's National Working Group on Research Data.
The service also has the potential in the future to act as a link to the research data support units (so-called Data Access Units, DAU), which are now being created at 27 Swedish universities and university colleges. In the proposed model, researchers describe their data via SND’s portal and the support units take care of the data in order to make them searchable and reusable via SND’s catalogue.
To access the portal, log in at the top of the main SND webpage. You can login with your existing university account or via social media.
