SND’s web training BAS Online has been updated and received some new content. The course is a basic training in data management for people who work with research data support at Swedish higher education institutions.
—The biggest change is the training session that we call Introduktion till juridik och forskningsdata (Introduction to law and research data). This is an entirely new material, authored by our Legal Officer, Erica Schweder. We’ve also added two new sections to this session, for instance a summary in the form of a checklist for research legislation, says Sofia Österberg, Research Data Advisor at SND.
Another change in the training material has been to revise the lists of mentioned tools. As technology develops, tools that are useful today may not be so tomorrow. Instead, we've added another important resource to complement BAS Online: the DAU Handbook.
—When we discuss various tools for data management, we really recommend using the DAU handbook as well. As it’s in wiki format, it’s continuously expanded and updated, which means that the number of tools can also be revised more frequently, explains Sofia Österberg.
Even though BAS Online is primarily intended for staff in the research data support units (so-called Data Access Units) in HEIs, the training is useful for all who work with data management. You can tell this from the fact that some of the previous videos have had 4,000–5,000 views each (e.g. the section on public access to information and secrecy), and that several HEIs have asked if they may use the BAS Online videos in other contexts.
