IASSIST: How do we build a successful data infrastructure consortium?

Published: 2022-05-02

Logo IASSIST Conference 2022On 7–10 June, the IASSIST 2022 conference takes place in Gothenburg, with SND as their host organization. The conference focuses on data-related matters in the Social Sciences and Open Science. The theme for this year’s conference is “Data by Design – Building a Sustainable Data Culture”. Several members of the SND staff will be present at the conference. In the weeks leading up to the conference, we will present some of the sessions with SND staff.

Gustav Nilsonne, SND Domain Specialist for medical data and Associate Professor of neuroscience at Karolinska Institutet, will hold a presentation on 9 June with the title “Data domain specialists and flagship projects: challenges and successes in crafting partner contributions to the Swedish National Data Service consortium”.

Tell us a little about your presentation at the IASSIST conference.

I will be talking about the SND data domain specialists and flagship projects in a presentation about how to develop a successful national consortium for a research data infrastructure.

The data domain specialists and flagships are both funded directly by the universities in the SND Consortium and are part of the universities’ in-kind contributions to SND, which is primarily funded by the Swedish Research Council. The data domain specialists are experts on data management in their scientific domains, and the purpose of the flagship projects is to develop new functionality for, for example, living databases and technical interoperability between systems for registration of data and other research objects.

Why is it important to share and discuss this with other people?

It’s valuable to get new points of view and to learn from how other people work, particularly as we are now in a development phase with the new flagship projects, where they’re trying to figure out their direction.

What are you looking forward to at the IASSIST conference and what do you hope to take away from it?

I especially hope for a rewarding exchange between colleagues at the conference; to strengthen SND’s networks, and, personally, to learn something new.
