Visibility of data shared through DORIS
When data are described using SND’s documentation system DORIS, they are assigned a DOI persistent identifier through SND's collaboration with DataCite. They are also automatically indexed to be discoverable in various resources.
Metadata about new publications and updates are continuously harvested from DataCite by numerous international systems that index research data. So by making your data visible via DORIS, they become findable and discoverable through a wide range of important systems and databases, including:
- The national research data catalogue Researchdata.se.
- Google, which indexes all data with a DOI issued by DataCite and makes the metadata searchable through Google Dataset Search.
- Data Citation Index, via a collaboration between DataCite and Clarivate.
- Mendeley Data and Data Monitor by Elsevier, both of which include metadata from DataCite.
- Dimensions, a database that indexes DataCite metadata.
- OpenAIRE, a European network for open data, which indexes DataCite metadata through its search tool OpenAIRE Explore.
- Sveriges dataportal, which catalogues open data created by Swedish public authorities, includes datasets published via SND. By publishing research data through SND's DORIS, researchers help fulfil the legal obligation for information provision as defined in Chapter 2, Section 6 of the Swedish Open Data Act (SFS 2022:818, Lag (2022:818) om den offentliga sektorns tillgängliggörande av data).
- re3data.org, a registry of research data repositories, is included in DataCite’s services.
- CESSDA Data Catalogue, which indexes data from social science studies in over 20 European countries.
- ARIADNE Portal for archaeological studies.
Publishing research data through DORIS and SND thus offers multiple avenues for increasing the visibility and accessibility of data and related publications – for both humans and automated information services. It also enhances the ability to produce overviews of research output, such as summaries and overviews used for evaluating research groups or institutions.
Describing previously published data
You may also describe datasets in DORIS even if the data have already been shared or published through another service, such as an external database or website. In such cases, the data must already have a persistent identifier that can be used to link to it from the data description in DORIS.
Please note that data already published externally will not be assigned a new DOI via DORIS and will not be discoverable in the same way as datasets originally described and published through DORIS.
