Time Method

Sampling procedure

Total universe/Complete enumeration
The review database includes reviews published in newspapers as well as non-specialized journals and magazines (both online and print). Two Swedish media databases, Svenska Dagstidningar and Mediearkivet, have been used to locate reviews for the 72 post-Soviet novels. In total 590 reviews were identified, of which 377 were included in the review corpus. Only independent reviews (not combinations of a review and an author interview) have been included in the review corpus. Furthermore, only one review per critic and novel have been included in the corpus. In cases when a critic has sent versions of the same review to different newspapers, publication date (earliest) and in some cases review availability (in full-text database) have determined which review was included. Finally, a few very short reviews without reflection have not been included in the corpus.
