Description
Target-tailored forest damage inventories (TFDI) aiming at providing data for operational decision making at local level and linked to specific damage events, are undertaken by the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. TDFIs are developed to give a rapid response to requested information on specific damage outbreaks. The TDFIs are carried out in limited and concentrated samples, with flexible but robust methods and design.
During 2007, TFDI carried out a sample inventory of resin top disease (Cronartium flaccidum) in young forest in northern Sweden (county of Norrbotten coastal area). The purpose of the inventory was to estimate the area of damaged young forest, but also to highlight the geographical distribution and the appearance of the damage on different types of forest sites and in different types of regeneration.
The inventory was stratified by using data from the Swedish Forest Agency's moose grazing inventory (ÄBIN). In total 112 forest stands were inventoried. Within each stand, 8 circular sample plots with a radius of 3.5 m were inventoried. All trees in the sample plots were

The inventory was stratified by using data from the Swedish Forest Agency's moose grazing inventory (ÄBIN). In total 112 forest stands were inventoried. Within each stand, 8 circular sample plots with a radius of 3.5 m were inventoried. All trees in the sample plots were counted and all trees infected by resin top disease both dead and alive were noted.
Some assessed and used variables:
Tree species proportion
Number of tees
Number of infected alive trees
Number of infected dead trees
Altitude
Vegetation type
