Description
A sample was drawn from the population registry among persons aged 18-18 years and living in Region Scania in 30th June 2004. The sample was stratified after geographic areas where each municipality stated a selection group, except Helsingborg which was divided into five city parts, Kristianstad divided in six municipality parts, Lund in ten municipality parts and Malmo in ten city parts. Selections of about the same size were made in each subarea. In total 27,963 persons answered the questionnaire, corresponding to 59 percent of the total sample (n= 47,621). The department of Social medicin, University Hospital MAS, Region Scania was operative responsible for the investigation. Statistics Sweden (SCB) has been contracted to perform mailing, collecting of the questionnaires and summaries. The study was approved by the regional research ethics committee and SCB:s etichal board.

Sampling procedure
Urvalsprocessen, bestående av 49 000 individer (bruttourvalet), genomfördes i tre steg. I ett första steg drogs 8 000 personer från hela urvalsramen som ett slumpmässigt obundet urval. Dessa 8 000 personer ingick i en grupp som skulle få speciella åtgärder vad gällde försök till bortfallsreduktion. I nästa steg fördelades dessa 8 000 personer efter undersökningens 124 (62 områden*2 kön) strata och i det sista steget fylldes sedan på med individer till önskad urvalsstorlek i respektive stratum för att nå upp till de efterfrågade 49 000 personerna. Två påminnelser skickades ut till dem som inte besvarat enkäten. Den första påminnelsen skickades ut ca tio dagar efter det ursprungliga utskicket och bestod av ett tack- och påminnelsekort. Den andra påminnelsen var en enkätpåminnelse. Den skickades ut ca en månad efter den första påminnelsen till samtliga personer som inte hade besvarat enkäten, förutom till 2 800 slumpmässigt utvalda personer från de 8 000 personer som dragits i urvalsprocessens första steg.
