Description

A clinical examination of a subgroup of men in the Cohort of Swedish Men living in Västerås and Örebro between 2010 and 2019. A re-examination is planned, but is pending although the aim is to start during 2022. In connection to the clinical visit the participants have filled in health and lifestyle questionnaires, and blood, urine, faeces and adipose tissue has been collected at the visit together with functional tests (e.g. memory test, gait speed and muscle strength) and biometric measures (height, weight, body composition).

Sampling of a clinical subcohort of Cohort of Swedish Men started in year 2010. To begin with men who were over age 75 years and living in Västerås received an invitation letter to participate in a validated cognitive phone interview. The invitation also included a food frequency questionnaire and a one-day food diary. If they participated in the cognitive phone interview they were invited to participate in a health examination and fill out the food questionnaire and food diary. Participation in the cognitive phone interview was over 83%. The health examination included measruement of weight, height, waist, hip, and blood pressure, and body composition measurement using a bio-electrical impedance scale. Samples of fasting blood, urine, faeces and adipose tissue were also collected at the health exam.

When all men over age 75 years had been invited, additional men in the Cohort of Swedish Men living in Västerås County were invited starting with the earliest birth year. Besides an invitation to participate in a health examination the letter also included diet, health and lifestyle questionnaires and a one-day food diary. The health examination included weight, height, waist, hip, blood pressure measurement and body composition measurement using a bio-electrical impedance scale, and samples of fasting blood, urine, faeces and adipose tissue were collected. Data collection ended in 2019.

In total 4,754 men participated in the health exam of which 1,062 of the men were at the time for examination married to or lived together with a woman in the Swedish Mammography clinical subcohort Västerås. Show less..
