SHFA is a national project for the construction and establishment of a database and a digital archive of rock art documentation and research at the University of Gothenburg, funded by the Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation, the National Heritage Board and the Swedish Research Council. Miljödata AB in Karlskrona handles the IT development. SND, the Swedish National Data Service, is responsible for long term storage of the original digital archive material.

Purpose:

The Purpose of the Swedish Rock Art Research Archive is to make contemporary and historic rock art documentation available for research by creating a new infrastructure with a new IT system of research databases and to make these accessible through a digital research archive as well as a public archive for original documentation resulting from a thorough surveying and registering of rock art documentation in more than 80 official and private archivesm to scan, digitalise, and adjust to the web, the documents and images of these archives and to manage the academic research programme "Från antikviteter för de bildade till kultur-
