Description

The information in the abstract is translated from the archaeological report:
Following the new construction of National Road 32/50 between Mjölby and Motala, Stiftelsen Kulturmiljövård Mälardalen (KM) performed an excavation outside Fågelsta in Motala. The excavation included a settlement which, after a field evaluation, was dated to the Early Neolithic and to the Bronze Age - Early Iron Age. The total investigation area covered about 60000 square meters of which 2300 square meters were excavated. A total of 128 archaeological objects was documented of which 105 consisted of features and layers. Two possible building remains were documented, of which one was the remains after a hut and the other a remain after a three-aisled house. Radiocarbon datings indicate two distinct periods of activity on the site, one during the Early Neolithic and the other at the transition between Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age.

Purpose:

The information in the purpose is translated from the archaeological report:
The excavation was prompted by the diversion of National Road 32/50 between Mjölby and Motala. The overall aim of this excavation was to clarify the following: the function, character, extent and dating of the settlement remains, the usage and dating of the cultivation layers, if there are multiple time horizons at the settlement, and the character, extent, use, and dating of possible other remains.

The ZIP file consist of GIS files and an Access database with information about the excavations, findings and other metadata about the archaeological survey. Show less..
