                              BACKGROUND

On initiative from EOS Gallup Europe a set of questions
regarding public opinion on an enlarged European Community
were circulated to EOS partners outside the European
Community. Some questions were original Eurobarometer
questions selected from Euro-barometer 38.0: European Court of
Justice, Passive Smoking, and Consumer Issues,
    September-October 1992 (ICPSR 6044). The questionnaire was
compiled after consultations with Karlheinz Reif and Anna
    Melich.

EOS partners in three countries, Austria, Finland and Sweden
were able to raise funding for the study. The field work
period was November 1992 and all data were collected through
    personal interviews.

    Participating EOS partners were
    Austria: Gallup Institut
    Finland: Suomen Gallup
    Sweden: SIFO

The data have been acquired by the Swedish Social Science Data
Service (SSD) at the Göteborg University for the purpose of
making them internationally available for social science
    research.
