SUMMARY:Network meeting in Eskilstuna 21–22 October 2026
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the autumn SND Network meeting in Eskilstuna, 21–22 October 2026. Mälardalen University (https://www.mdu.se/en/malardalen-university) bid you welcome to SND’s Network Meeting in Eskilstuna, 21–22 October 2026. We have now reached 2026, the target year for the Swedish national goal of making publicly funded research data accessible. The aim is for data to be as open as possible and as restricted as necessary. This raises several questions, not least: how far have we come? Is making all research data accessible within reach? We also need to consider what is possible and what restrictions are necessary. What does the Swedish Research Council see as necessary for us to achieve the goal? Who should decide whether restrictions are necessary? Are there research data that need to remain inaccessible, and if so, for what reasons? This autumn’s Network meeting will focus on the pressing issues that need to be addressed if the goal of accessible research data is to be put into practice. Representatives from the SND Office and the Swedish Research Council will explore different perspectives on restricted access. The Agency for Digital Government (Digg) will consider the accessibility of research data in relation to the Swedish Open Data Act (SFS 2022:818 law on the accessibility of public sector data). The researchers’ perspective will be presented on the basis of interviews conducted as part of SND’s KAFFE initiative. As usual, the host university will present its work to support research data management, and there will be additional workshops before and after the Network meeting; see more below. Note that the presentations and workshops will all be held in Swedish.Wednesday’s programme will end at around 17:00, followed by a tour of Campus Eskilstuna and a walk to Munktellmuseet for the evening dinner.Register for the network meeting (https://snd.se/sv/form/natverkstraff-i-eskilstuna-21-22) . Time: 21 October, 13:00–22 October, 12:00Venue: Mälardalen University, Campus Eskilstuna (https://www.google.com/maps/place/M%C3%A4lardalens+Universitet/@59.373743,16.5093713,19.44z/data=!4m6!3m5!1s0x465ef2b5dd6b3169:0xd17e2d20cef45f64!8m2!3d59.3737525!4d16.5098037!16s%2Fg%2F119wq7tk6?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI2MDkwOC4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D) Registration: Register by 12:00 on Friday 9 October to attend in person.Contact: Elisabeth Strandhagen (mailto.elisabeth.strandhagen@snd.se) & Elin Hallman (mailto.elin.hallman@snd.se) Programme: A detailed programme will be published shortly. Workshops Day 1 – 21 October10:00–12:00: Introduction to SNDAn introduction to SND and SND’s activities. We will briefly describe the background to SND’s work, but our main focus will be on what we do to promote open access to research data. SND provides a range of technical services, which we will introduce, as well as expertise and opportunities for exchanging knowledge and experience. We will also explain how SND is organized through the SND Office, the SND Consortium, and the SND Network, and discuss the benefits of a sociotechnical infrastructure such as SND. Workshop leader: Sara Svensson (mailto:sara.svensson@snd.se) , SND Day 2 – 22 October13:00–15:30: Accessible data at their most restricted: a text seminar“Research data should be made as open as possible and as restricted as necessary” – but when restrictions become too extensive, do the data not become inaccessible? In this seminar, we will work with a discussion paper that explores where the boundary lies between inaccessible data and data subject to extensive restrictions. What is the minimum level of access required? The purpose of the seminar is to work together to find solutions to the challenges that remain in the text, so that it can subsequently be used to establish the principles and minimum criteria for when research data can be considered to have been made accessible.Seminar leaders: Stefan Ekman (mailto:stefan.ekman@snd.se) and Lisa Isaksson (mailto:lisa.isaksson@snd.se) , SND13:00–15:30: EOSC in Sweden – what do we want it to be?The vision behind EOSC is to create a distributed digital ecosystem in which researchers can collaborate seamlessly across national borders and make use of data, analysis systems, computing resources, and expertise. As part of efforts to turn this vision into reality, the EOSC Federation is now being developed around a number of so-called EOSC Nodes. These nodes may be thematic, focusing on a specific domain, or geographically based in a particular country. Work to establish a Swedish national EOSC Node has begun. The Swedish Research Council is coordinating the work, with technical development by Sunet, in collaboration with SND and SciLifeLab. Over the coming years, we hope that this will lay the foundations for a solution that can be expanded in collaboration with other Swedish organizations. In this workshop, we will take a closer look at what an EOSC Node is. We will allow ourselves to think big and brainstorm possible services and use cases that could be developed, while also considering the obstacles that would need to be overcome. Bring your best creative ideas – along with a healthy dose of common sense to keep them grounded!Workshop leader: Lina Andrén (mailto:lina.andren@vr.se) , Swedish Research Council 13:00–15:30: Putting researchers’ voices centre stage – come and explore the KAFFE interviews! The 40 qualitative interviews conducted with doctoral students and researchers as part of the KAFFE project (/node/2243) resulted in a report and a set of recommendations (DOI: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.20539232 (https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.20539232) . Would you like to explore the researchers’ accounts for yourself? All the interviews are now openly available (https://doi.org/10.5878/tsxe-f281) and this workshop will give participants dedicated time to delve into the interview transcripts. You will have the opportunity to reflect on researchers’ practices, needs, and ideal scenarios. We will begin with an introduction to the interview study and its background. The first hour will then be devoted to working directly with the interview transcripts. You can choose how you want to approach the material: through a close reading of a small number of interviews, or perhaps by exploring how the interview material can be analysed with the help of an LLM-based tool. We will then discuss and compare our observations and interpretations. What surprised you? What seemed familiar? Did you notice recurring needs, experiences or problems? Did the material raise questions about our own ways of working and our priorities? No prior knowledge is required – just bring your curiosity Workshop leaders: Madeleine Dutoit (mailto:madeleine.dutoit@snd.se) , Elin Hallman (mailto:elin.hallman@snd.se) , and Arin Tham (mailto:arin.tham@snd.se) , SND. \nhttps://snd.se/en/network-meeting-eskilstuna-21-22-october-2026
