DESCRIPTION:\n\nWelcome to SND's panel discussion at Almedalsveckan 2024!\n\nWe bid you a warm welcome to SND's panel discussion at Almedalsveckan. The theme of our panel is “Vägen mot öppen tillgång till forskningsdata – hur går omställningen?” (The Road to Open Access to Research Data – How is the Transition Progressing?). The event – which is held in Swedish – is organized at the Vetenskap & Allmänhets arena för forskning och demokrati (Public & Science Sweden’s Arena for Research and Democracy).\n\n\nThe national goal for an open science system includes a transition to open access to research data by 2026. With two years remaining, how is the transition progressing? What obstacles are in the way and how do we move forward?\nOpen access to research data can unlock significant value and benefits both research and society. Accessible data makes it possible to collect large datasets to make new discoveries, answer important questions more precisely, and critically review published results. By being able to reuse collected data, it is possible to conduct more research and innovations with fewer resources. The higher education sector in Sweden has been tasked with transitioning to a fully open research system by 2026, which includes open sharing of research data as far as possible.
